Achievements and Awards

RECOGNITION OF OUR EFFORTS. Due to the outstanding efforts of our companies' employees, The Renco Group and its affiliate companies have been repeatedly given various awards recognizing the companies for achievements in environmental protection, worker safety, community involvement, among other categories. Below is a list of some of the many awards received throughout recent years.

The Doe Run Company:
  • Sentinels of Safety Award: Doe Run and its predecessors have earned the highest safety honor in the U.S. mining industry, the Mine Safety and Health Administration's Sentinels of Safety Award, 24 times since 1971
  • Mine Safety and Health Administration Metal/Nonmetal National Mine Rescue Contest 2010 national championship
  • o First Place Overall - Maroon Team
    o Finalist - Gray Team
    o Third Place - Gray Team two-man technical team competition
  • U.S. Mine Rescue Association's Metal/Nonmetal Mine Rescue Contest 2009; Idaho Springs, Colo.
  • o First Place Overall - Gray Team
    o First Place, BG-4 Competition
    o First Place, Edgar Mine Challenge
  • Missouri University of Science and Technology's 27th Annual Southeast Missouri Mine Rescue Contest (Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, 2009; Rolla, Mo.)
  • o Best in State - Maroon Team (Fourth consecutive year)
    o First Place, BG-4 Breathing Apparatus Benchman Contest
  • Doe Run's Herculaneum Smelting Division received the 2009 Renaissance Award for its role in installing a new track at Dunklin R-V High School
  • Buick Resource Recycling Division: Presented Missouri's Safest Smelter award 12 times since 1995
  • 2008 Bronze Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC): "Neighbors - The Doe Run Company's 2006 Report to Our Communities" collected one of only 17 Excellence awards
  • 2008 Award for Publication Excellence (APEX): "Neighbors - The Doe Run Company's 2006 Report to Our Communities" was honored for the third year in a row for communications excellence
  • Perfect Record Award: In 2009, the Casa Grande, Ariz., facility owned by Doe Run's subsidiary, Fabricated Products, Inc., surpassed 10 years without a lost-time accident and received a "Perfect Record Award" from the National Safety Council. The team holds an award for each year from 2000-2008
  • Missouri Farm Bureau Tour of Missouri Spirit Award: The community of Viburnum, Mo., won this award in 2009, thanks in part to Doe Run's involvement, in-kind donations and employee volunteers during the Tour of Missouri bike race
  • ISO Certification: Several Doe Run facilities maintain certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), including Herculaneum (ISO 9001), Glover (ISO 14001) and Buick Resource Recycling Division (ISO 9001)
 
Doe Run Peru:
  • The Peruvian government has awarded Doe Run Peru's operations the National Mining Safety Prize for their exemplary safety record multiple times since 1998
  • First place in the national mine rescue contest 1998, 1999, 2002, 2005
  • First place in first aid and third place in field equipment in a U.S. national mine rescue contest - 2002
  • Third place in an international mine rescue contest (Las Vegas 2000)
  • Fourth place in an international first aid contest (China 2006)
 
Unarco:
  • The State of Tennessee recognized Unarco with the Governor's Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Management
  • Design for the Environment Recognition Award for the successful implementation of the Polychem® Acrastrip®, a H.A.P.-free, non-flammable cleaning fluid with significant workplace health and environmental benefits
  • Unarco has won multiple environmental and community awards from state and national organizations
 
US Magnesium:
  • Utah Manufacturing Extension Partnership & Governor's Office of Economic Development Environmental Consciousness Award - 2007
  • o Recognition for chlorine emission reductions, energy utilization reductions, developing efficient recycling methods for magnesium scrap, economic implementation of solar energy on a large scale and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
  • United States Department of Environmental Protection (USEPA) Climate Protection Award - 2004
  • o Recognition of a voluntary commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating the use of sulfur hexafluoride, a very potent greenhouse gas
  • Utah State Legislature Official Citation - 2004
  • o Recognition for reducing its annual air pollution emissions by 95% and significantly improving energy efficiency through research and development carried out in the state of Utah
  • Pinnacle Award for 2003 from Union Pacific Railroad for reporting no chemical releases and employing safe loading practices
 
AM General:
  • Outstanding Readiness Support Award in the Large Business category received from the Defense Logistics Agency recognizing "extraordinary customer support, service and product provided directly in response to a crisis situation," referring to U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. DLA's annual Business Alliance Awards recognizes those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts to partner with DLA and improve the agency's mission of providing supplies and services to America's military forces - 2008
  • Five Field Service Awards received from the U.S. Army including the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) and the Program Executive Office for Combat Support and Combat Service Support - 2008
  • National Philanthropy Day Award from The United Way for Corporate Philanthropist of the Year (AM General and UAW Local #5) - 2008
  • Five Honorary Service Awards received from Defense Contract Management Agency - first instance of DCMA selecting a non-military organization for these awards "ensuring that military supplies and services meet performance requirements while staying within cost and on schedule." - 2008
  • John W. Dixon Award from the Association of the U.S. Army presented to AM General, an honor given annually by the National Defense Industrial Association for "outstanding contributions to national defense." - 2007
  • Memorial Health Foundation Circle of Excellence citation for local charitable support - 2009
  • Team Award for Excellence received from the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) - 2000
  • Quality Improvement Award received from State of Indiana from 1994 through 1999 (award discontinued after 1999)
  • AM General is first to achieve certification to the Contractor Performance Certification Program (CP)2 in 1993, subsequently updated including 1996 upgrade of (CP)2 certification to 1995 revision
