Business and Products: Doe Run Peru is a mining and metals company that employs some 3,000 people at its operations in Peru’s central Andes. The company has run the La Oroya metallurgical complex since 1997 and the Cobriza mine in Huancavelica province since 1998. Together they produce high-quality refined metals while at the same time working to operate in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Doe Run Peru produces and sells lead, copper, zinc, gold, silver, and other metals. Its customers around the world include users of non-ferrous and precious metals and metal by-products.
Operations and Facilities: Doe Run Peru operates a copper mine in Cobriza, Peru and a metallurgical complex in La Oroya, Peru that produces lead, zinc, copper, silver, gold, and other metals. The mine in Cobriza supplies a significant portion of the copper concentrates used by the smelter at La Oroya. In separate processes, the La Oroya facility smelts copper, lead and zinc. Ores are further processed to extract silver, gold and other metals. Doe Run Peru's headquarters and sales office are located in Lima, Peru. A packing and distribution facility is located in Callao, Peru.

Environment and Community: Whether working toward Peru's Environmental Adjustment and Management Program goals or teaching local residents about running a small business, Doe Run Peru makes being a good community member a top priority. The company has installed pollution control mechanisms at its production facilities that have led to a considerable reduction of emissions. Since Doe Run Peru began operating the La Oroya and Cobriza facilities, employee accident rates have fallen and employees have lower blood lead levels. Doe Run Peru has invested hundreds of millions of dollars on process and environmental improvements since its arrival in 1997.
Meeting the needs of the community surrounding its facilities is as important to Doe Run Peru as providing for its employees. Local residents of La Oroya and Cobriza have the opportunity to develop new skills with the help of Doe Run Peru's educational programs in business, health, nutrition, livestock care and agriculture. In addition, Doe Run Peru contributes to its communities through improvements in roadways, schools, medical facilities and transportation implementation. Reflecting its commitment to developing strong community outreach programs, in 2005 and 2006 Doe Run Peru jointly sponsored a program that provided 130 children with free surgical operations conducted by physicians from Rotaplast International.
