Environment and Community: US Magnesium has proven its commitment to environmental responsibility by dramatically reducing its chlorine output and other air emissions. Since 1989, when the Renco Group acquired the previous owner of the Rowley facility, total air emissions at the facility have fallen by 95 percent. In addition, chlorine emissions at the facility have fallen by 90 percent since 1998, and hydrochloric acid emissions were reduced by 65 percent from 1990 to 1998. In 2003 the Utah State Legislature commended US Magnesium for making modernizations that improved efficiencies and reduced air emissions. The company also received the EPA Climate Protection Award in 2004 for its commitment to reduce sulfur hexafluoride emissions.
