The Doe Run Company
The Doe Run Company is a natural resource company focused on meeting the minerals and metals needs of global communities through minerals exploration, mining, smelting, recycling and fabrication. Doe Run is America's only integrated lead producer and the largest integrated lead producer in the Western Hemisphere. Based in St. Louis, the company’s Missouri operations include six mines, four mills, a primary lead smelter, and a secondary smelter, and two lead fabrication plants in Arizona and Washington. Doe Run reports on its performance and progress through an annual sustainability report.
As a producer of lead, zinc and copper concentrates and lead metals and alloys, Doe Run helps meet the growing worldwide demand for metals that provide power, protection and convenience. The company's product lines include chemical and copperized lead, a variety of lead-calcium alloys, and wrought strip. These metals are used in essential products such as car batteries (including advanced batteries for mild hybrid vehicles), shielding for medical and military purposes, as well as for communications and energy storage technologies.
The Doe Run Company is actively involved in exploration, as well as the development of a number of proprietary technologies to improve environmental performance of metal production and increase mineral recovery, including the first successful demonstration of a lead electrowinning process. Doe Run also recycles more than 150,000 tons of lead annually from manufactured products ranging from batteries to telephone cables at one of the largest, single-site lead recycling facilities in the world.
The Doe Run Company began as the St. Joseph Lead Company in 1864. The Renco Group acquired the company from The Fluor Corporation in 1994.
